Lowndes County Head Start

Greetings,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Angela Calhoun, and I am honored to serve as your Director of Head Start.

I am originally from Jefferson City, Missouri. After graduating from high school, I earned my Bachelor of Science, Master of Education, and Education Specialist degrees in Early Childhood Education from Alabama State University. I also hold a Master’s degree in Learning, Design, and Technology from the University of West Alabama as well as my certification in Instructional Leadership certification. I taught Kindergarten for twenty-six years and am a proud and passionate advocate for early childhood education.

I would also like to welcome you and your family to a new school year filled with love and learning. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue working together to grow and strengthen our Head Start school family. Our district-wide theme this year is “Wild About Learning” and achieving this goal requires a strong partnership between home and school.

We encourage you to take an active role in your child’s education by reinforcing classroom skills at home and participating in activities designed with your family in mind. We also invite you to share how Head Start has positively influenced your child and family through social media. Please be on the lookout for announcements regarding special events and upcoming activities.

Volunteering is strongly encouraged. Please remember that TB skin tests are required for all volunteers. While volunteer training has already taken place, our Family Advocate Practitioners are available to assist you in scheduling a session if needed. The safety and well-being of your children remain our top priority.
